Solar Array Drive Assembly

Product Introduction

The Solar Array Drive Assembly (SADA) is a core actuation subsystem for satellites, enabling solar arrays to precisely track the sun and maximize energy harvest for on-board operations. It is composed of two key components: the Solar Array Drive Mechanism (SADM) and the Solar Array Drive Electronics (SADE).

The SADE decodes control commands from the on-board computer, regulates the precise rotation of the SADM, and transmits real-time positional data of the solar array back to the on-board computer for closed-loop control. The SADM, by contrast, facilitates reliable power and signal transmission between the solar array and the satellite platform, while accommodating the mechanical rotation required for sun-tracking.

Main Functions of SADA:

  • Withstand load in ground test, launch, orbit maneuver and in-orbit operation phase
  • Receive control command, control and drive SADA to perform actions according to the working mode
  • Transmit energy and related telemetry signals

Primary Operation Mode:

  • Fast sun tracking mode: search and track the sun
  • Sun tracking mode: track the sun as satellite moves in orbit
  • Orbit control mode: drive the solar array for minimal windward area
